repetitive media propaganda

We all know that propaganda has been a part of media and maybe even, prompted media wide coverage of everything in life now... from celebrities to what your friend had for dinner posted on her facebook status. all in all, the world is controlled by media and has been since the inception of literacy and the printing press. i heard an amazing quote from King of the Hill - of all shows- it was a principal who said -and I'm leaning to concur with him - that all parents want to know nowadays is why their kids can't read.. that's it, the people's focus is turned to literacy as a whole now because it is in our face..now if we can all read from younger and younger ages we will all be prompted to see read and in-take all images and written media around us. {i hate to ask - cause i failed it twice in high school...but what about math? [and for that matter...science, tech etc... these now take a backseat to what is being shoved in our faces everyday.]}

this is the direction we are going and without a doubt it will only snow ball even further.. I'm interested to see where future media/propaganda-what have you---will take us and what length they will go to advertise.

recently at my place of employ - won't mention it... but we (and I say we lightly - my boss who does not listen to anyone or research anything before going ahead with it) hired a guy who contracted a person to create a facebook page get us 2500 friends emails etc, in our projected demographic and region..... and we paid almost 2000 for it!! can you believe this. it's nutz.  just to throw more and more media-lingo-shit in people's faces. I'm all for literacy cool advertising, but now it is so saturated that i cannot even think how to redefine good literacy. it has become media-social-networked based and influence.

the media has risen in it's power and is unequivocally showering us with wordie-propaganda from visual, animated and just plain words..everywhere.

i am a linguist. i am for learning, language & literacy, but this diluted mess we are living in currently needs to be tidied.

I do however feel & see the inevitable linguistic change which is world wide with language. we are seeing something, what i think is akin to Big Brother (George Orwell 1984) with 24/7/365 linked in social networking, emailing, etc capabilities we have all streamlined our minds to online online online and we are all [practically] ONLINE. we are hooked in.
i do not want to piss anyone off by saying "everyone" is hooked in, but i speak in more general terms for the local general mass of the human and in this case [Canadian] population. i speak of the people i commute to work with on the roads everyday, exposed to radio, and billboard ads, then when we get to work, we are undoubtedly [thanks to google's keen key word pick up] we are now prompted to buy immediately when we do a simple Internet search.

i can go on for hours, but really i know that i have ranted enough

what i am saying is that we are now at the inevitable stage of media and marketing where we are always inundated with SOMETHING.

what i am looking forward to is 10 years from now. i want to see how things have changed and where we will be, how much MORE hooked in we will be and with WHAT restrictions [or lack thereof]. i want to see the linguistic change filter across the board-worldwide!

next post will be more organized, sometime a girl's just gotta rant to get this stuff out of her head!
